Scott Hanna graduated in 1983 from the Albert Lea Vocational Technical Institute (now known as Riverland Community College) with a two year diploma in Refrigeration, Heating, & Air Conditioning. While attending school, he worked part time at a local Thermo King franchise performing service work on semi-trailers.
In 1984, he worked as a engineering technician for the Trane Air Conditioning Company in LaCrosse, WI. His duties included testing prototype refrigeration systems and recording technical data for research and development.
In 1985 he accepted the position of maintenance supervisor/engineer for the Minnesota Freezer Warehouse in Albert Lea, MN. His duties included supervising the maintenance of plant equipment including the ammonia refrigeration system.
In 1986, he accepted a position with Crossroads Trailer Sales and Service in Albert Lea, MN as a refrigeration service technician. His duties included maintaining and troubleshooting both Thermo King and Carrier transport refrigeration systems. During his employment with Crossroads, he attended the two week Carrier Factory Service Training Course in Syracuse, NY.
In 1990, with five years of transport refrigeration experience, Scott was asked to be a consultant to a group of technical writers/illustrators that were preparing Operation and Diagnostic manuals for Thermo King transport refrigeration systems. His duties included product research, and writing outlines for maintenance and diagnostic procedures.
In 1991, he made his decision to go into business full time as a technical writer, preparing Installation, Operation, Maintenance, and Diagnostic Manuals for various manufacturing companies. He has written and illustrated hundreds of manuals on subjects including; refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, computers/software, municipal waste pumping, panel building machines, and automotive cleaning equipment. During this time, he also studied computers and software in his spare time.
In 1995, a current customer requested their technical documentation be placed on the internet. After an extensive learning curve and purchasing web development software, Scott combined technical documentation and web development into one business.
In 1999, Scott was asked to "head up" the new "Transport Refrigeration Technician" program at Riverland Community College in Albert Lea, MN. Riverland Community College was only the second college in the United States to offer this course. During the first year of instructing, Scott also attended the two week Thermo King Factory Service Training Course in Bloomington, MN. Scott designed and implemented the entire college credited course, with support from both Thermo King and Carrier corporations.
In 2002, Scott was asked to instruct an HVAC (Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning) course at Riverland Community College. After combining portions of the "Transport Refrigeration Technician" curriculum with some new material, Scott instructed the HVAC course for two years.
In 2004, Scott was offered the opportunity to be the computer IT tech for several ethanol plants. After meeting with Broin, the management company for all the plants, Scott became the IT specialist for Exol in Albert Lea, MN; Pro-Corn LLC in Preston, MN; Voyager Ethanol in Emmetsburg, IA; and Iowa Ethanol in Hanlontown, IA.Scott now visits each plant on a weekly basis, maintaining the network PC's and handling any IT issues.
